Has your company got a carbon target firmly in its sights? The importance of carbon targets to business was brought sharply into focus at this month's The Energy Event where it was analysed in some detail in an Energy Insight Conference session by Hugh Jones, MD of Carbon Trust Advisory.
He had some hard figures to back up his argument - while UK energy prices remain on a steeply rising path until at least 2020, the average Internal Rate of Return for energy efficiency projects is currently 48 per cent. The Government faces legally binding carbon reduction targets - and with business contributing 40 per cent of emissions and influencing much more, Jones told his audience, it needs to play its part.
Jones wasn't the only speaker at the Energy Event to look closely at how industry can reduce both its carbon emission and its energy bills. There were contributions from, amongst others, E.ON's Sara Vaughan, Haven Power CE Peter Bennell, head of the DECC's National Carbon Market Niall Mackenzie, npower's Strategy and Product Development Manager Jon Davies, and M & S Energy Efficiency Manager Brian Cairns.
