RenewableUK, the organisation representing the UK's wind, wave and tidal energy sectors, is highlighting new statistics from National Grid that show 2015 was a record year for UK wind generation, with weekly, monthly and quarterly records being set.

Wind alone provided 11 per cent of the UK's electricity over the whole year, actually peaking at 17 per cent during December, the time of year when it is needed most. These figures, says RenewableUK's Director of Policy Dr Gordon Edge, show why the Government should continue to support wind energy.

The National Grid statistics "re-write the record books", he says. "We're delivering on our commitment to keep Britain powered up. We can continue to increase the proportion of the nation's electricity which we provide as we move away from fossil fuels to clean sources of power.'
